SMM and KZS Volunteer at Madonna Heights

SMITHTOWN, N.Y., June 2010 — On June 9, despite drizzling rain, volunteers from SMM and KZS, member agencies of the ANEW Marketing Group, spent the afternoon planting flowers and restoring a playground on the Madonna Heights campus. Located in Dix Hills, NY, Madonna Heights is a residential and community outreach center that helps women and families overcome the devastating effects of poverty, neglect and abuse. SMM and individual staff members contributed topsoil and many of the plantings, and solicited donations from local nurseries for the balance. Twenty bags of mulch were provided courtesy of the Town of Smithtown. All told, sixteen staff members from the two agencies participated in the beautification effort.

This is the second year that SMM has participated in an event organized through the Long Island Volunteer Experience (L.I.V.E.), which matches companies with deserving not-for-profit organizations for a one-day project. Last year a team from SMM spent a day helping to clean up the recently opened Nissequogue River State Park on the grounds of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center.
